What are Local Involvement Networks (LINks)?
Under the legislation that establishes LINks (Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007), local authorities have been given £84 million in funding to support LINk activities between 2008 - 2011.
Its up to each community, with the support of a host, to decide how they want their LINk to be run and what issues they want to focus on.
To enable LINks to carry out their role, the legislation also gives the Secretary of State a power to make regulations imposing duties on commissioners and certain providers of health and social care services to respond to LINks (to request for information and to reports and recommendations made to them by LINk) and to allow entry by LINks to premises under certain conditions.
The Manchester LINk comprises of a Steering Group which represents a wide variety of health and social care knowledge and expertise from the mixture of individuals and community organisations which are elected.
The role of the Steering Group is to discussions issues which are raised and decided on the most appripriate way to deal with these, as well as contributing to strategic policies and consultations.
The membership of the LINk is made up of individuals, groups and organisations who all have a interest in health and social care, membership to the LINk can vary on your availability whether it be recieving the newsletter to being actively involved in the LINk campaigns to express the views of Manchester residents.
The main job of the LINk is to ensure that those who make the decisions listen to what local people say, and hold them to account for their actions
